Day 17 - Humboldt State Park

Take a look at my Musings along a Coastal Highway for most part of today.  I was in a strange mood.  It was my thoughts as we were driving up Highway 1.

We did try to go down the Point Reyes again.  Not much better luck - it was still very foggy.  As we drove north though, the sun started to burn off some of the fog.  It wasn't until after lunch that we actually got some good views.

We arrived at Humboldt State Park about 4 - just in time to start the Avenue of the Giants and get to the Visitor's center.  We went through a couple of groves of Redwoods.  The Redwoods and the Sequoias are very similar but they are different too.  I'm not sure which I like best.  The Sequoias remind me of Treebeard.  The Redwoods are just honkin' big, tall trees.  All in all, it's a treat to hike through a forest full of these gentle giants.  They feel so soft, and they are just so timeless.

We are sitting and enjoying a nice fire at our beautiful campsite in the smack dab middle of the Redwoods.  Our tent is between 4 Redwoods.  You look straight up and can maybe see the top of the tree you are next to.  It's pretty cool.

Tomorrow, Crater Lake!
